About The
Artist
Born and raised in the downtown busy City
of Montreal, Quebec to a Quebec father and "war bride" mother
from England - until the tender age of fifteen(15) when father
found employment with Iron Ore Company of Canada in the then
Carol Lake in 1959 and moved his family as one of the Pioneer
Families to the now Labrador City in 1961.
Met my husband Whit there at 18 and married in
1965 at 19. Both daughter and son were born in Labrador
City.
Involved in all aspects of sports:
water-skiing, snow-skiing, bowling, softball (in different positions
for many years becoming president for a while), regatta racing -
also as secretary for the Lab. West Regatta Committee,
curling, roller blading, ski-doing and swimming. Yet,
painting was never even thought of during those years.
As a child and young teenager I enjoyed
drawing from the Archie Comic series -hair-does and clothes and
trying to make family look-a-likes. But that was a far
as it went.
We moved our young family to the island of
Newfoundland in late 1979 - Baie Verte - where we reside today
while our daughter and her family live in Pasadena and our son
in Fort McMurray.
Inspired by a painting by Bruce Pilgrim I had
seen in a friends' home, I yearned to be able to paint.
I was intrigued. This was in 1999 and in 2000 he became
my encourager, and helped me in many ways.
By 2002 I had several paintings done with some
given away as gifts while some were sold. These are acrylic
and originals only; some were by a photograph I had been given
and asked to do a painting from it. These I enjoy the
most. I have done paintings from my own photographs as
well.
I truly enjoy this scenic island, it's people
and this life-style is like no other anywhere. There is
a lot to capture in a painting done here. The beauty of
the land, the beauty of the people and their way of
life.
I feel blessed to be a part of it all
